Property
Depending on the situation, there are a number of ways to handle found property.
- If the property looks suspicious or like it could be associated with a crime scene, please do not touch or move the items and call 911.
- Found property should be turned into the agency in the same City or County where it was found. If you are not sure, please include the location of where the property was found when you call 911.
If the property appears to be of some value and not suspicious, you may call 911 and:
- have an Officer respond to the location where it is found or,
- you can bring most items into the Police Department.
Property may be taken for: safekeeping, held when a person is arrested, or as part of an investigation.
To have property returned to you, you must submit a Property Return Request (PDF) form.
Some restrictions apply, especially with regard to firearms.
Property that is illegal to possess will NOT be returned and will be destroyed according to State Statutes.
Property will be returned by Appointment Only and only during regular business hours. If property is EVIDENCE it may not be released until the case has been through the judicial process.
Unclaimed property will only be held for 60 Days.
