Tree Lit Up at Night in Jerry Smith Town Center Plaza

December 2, 2022
Location and Time To Be Announced

The City of Mountlake Terrace has its Tree Lighting Ceremony event on the first Friday evening in December each year. Join the city for the 35th year of lighting the tree of lights on top of the water tower in 2022.

The “tree” is actually a frame constructed with over 1,800 LED lights and visible from Interstate 5 and for miles around. The event traditionally includes a visit from Santa, local school choirs, cookies, cocoa/coffee, sponsor recognition and the lighting of the tree. Each year, the kids await Santa's arrival on a fire truck generously coordinated with South County Fire. In addition to the Fire Department's Santa transport, we thank the Tour de Terrace volunteers who have served cookies and cocoa at this event for several years.

And finally, we could not hold this event without the financial support of the community. Thank you to Mountlake Terrace Plaza who has funded this event for the past few years. We thank you for your continued support!

In 2020, several partners stepped up and contributed funds so the city could purchase a tree for the new Civic Campus plaza.  Unfortunately, the plaza did not have power and the new Civic Campus was not ready to hold an event in 2020 so the tree was not installed until December of 2021.

The following sponsors contributed toward making our future Tree Lighting Ceremonies in the plaza a reality:  Landsverk Quality Homes, Lake Cushman Company, Sound Structural Solutions, AFCO & Sons, Joe Mustach of Mustach & Jackson, Grand Pere Bakery, B Squared Construction, First Security Bank, West Ridge Land Corp, Wade Heyer, Summit Homes, Chicago Title as well as Mountlake Terrace Plaza.

Additionally, Premera Blue Cross re-allocated their annual sponsorship for National Night Out Against Crime toward a community year-end event after COVID-19 did not allow summer events to happen.

Stay tuned for more information about the 2022 Tree Lighting Ceremony!
